FEATURED GUEST: Erika Mayer is a nationally registered, board certified art psychotherapist. She received her Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Purchase and a Master of Science from The College of New Rochelle in Art Therapy and Counseling in 2012. Licensed in New York State, she possesses the Licensed Creative Art Therapist credential. 

Erika found her calling and her professional passion in the field of art therapy. Combining her striving to deeply understand clients with her passion for creativity and art-making, she never stops learning and honing her craft. Between her drive for excellence and her early clinical experiences, Erika developed excellence working with very challenging individual and family situations, including underserved populations and at-risk communities.

She specializes in working with children & adolescents, adult psychiatric clients, and combat Veterans. She has treated clients with wide range of challenges such as ADHD, Autism, ODD, Depression, Anxiety, explosive anger, risky impulsive behavior, PTSD, major life transitions, and trauma. Erika can develop strong working relationships with children of any age, including those who are resistant to therapy. The safe, nurturing, and creative-expressive environment she creates helps her clients reach the point at which they can openly express themselves. The relationship Erika creates with young people through art, play, sand-tray, and conversation helps them to gain self-awareness, increase self-esteem, and improve their sense of well-being. 

Outside of the office, Erika loves painting and utilizing mixed media to express herself. She loves hiking and practicing yoga, completed her 200-hour Yoga teacher training and is a Reiki Master. She keeps herself busy throughout the year as an Adjunct Professor at Jefferson University, and as an art therapy consultant for 
Also Us, a program that supports teens who are impacted by ALS. Erika believes that art making plays a pivotal role in the healing process and it can help individuals of any age overcome their challenges and promote personal growth.
