MINDSET MATTERS.

Reina Lombardi • Feb 08, 2023

One of the myths I hear is that mindset is simply having a consistently "positive attitude." I would like to challenge that perspective.

If you have been a long-time reader and follower, than you likely know I write about mindset frequently. I come back to it over and over again because I believe it makes a profound difference on what we are able to achieve and accomplish in our lives.

One of the myths I hear is that mindset is simply having a consistently "positive attitude."

I would like to challenge that perspective.

I could have a positive attitude about selling out a training, but when it is supposed to happen in 2 weeks and only 3 people have signed up, I will likely experience some feelings of disappointment and fear.

Those feelings might lead to thoughts about cancelling the event, giving up on offering trainings altogether or taking it personally. All of which leave me STUCK in the same place.

It is here where the MINDSET becomes pivotal.

Do I give power over to the voice of the imposter and fear?

Or, do I find a way to clear that energy and emotion so that I can cultivate a creative solutions to get butts in those seats?

How can I allow this adversity to my advantage? How can this be better for me than I my original conception? How can I turn this into an opportunity to try something new?

If you know me, than you know I am going to attempt the latter.

In 2018, I began offering a 12 hour Qualified Supervisor Training through my practice.

I didn't know what I was going to do to get people to sign up! I was taking the old toss a bunch of things at the wall and see what sticks method.

I tried flyers posted online and paid for Facebook & Instagram ads.

I made (very pretty artsy) postcards and mailed those out to as many therapists as I could within a 50 mile radius.

I sent out newsletters to folks in my contact list.

That first training had four paying customers and a therapist interning in my practice at the time.

It was a lot of work for a minimal return, but I knew I could figure it out and grow it.

I tracked how every person learned about the offering and used that information to hone my marketing strategy. AND PUT IT ON REPEAT!

Each time we offered it, the registrations grew until we were hosting in-person trainings at space capacity by the end of 2019. It felt AMAZING to reach that goal!

Then COVID hit. And my old friends Imposter and Fear started talking again.

I had to move to offering the training online. This was something I had not considered previously!

It actually allowed me to cast a net out to a larger spread. Now, instead of focusing solely on local colleagues, I could focus on everyone licensed in the State of Florida.

This shift allowed me to double the amount of seats for each offering, and thus go far beyond my original goals for the in-office trainings. Instead of 15-18 people, we have 25-30 each offering.

I am sharing this with you as a transparent example of the impact of our Mindset. Had I listened to the voice of the imposter and given up, I would have missed out on what has turned into another stable and substantial income stream within my business.

I hope it inspires you to find creative approaches to move through blocks and leverage adversity, so you too can grow beyond what you originally thought possible for yourself.

If you need support to break through mindset blocks in your practice, I'd welcome the opportunity to
coach you blast through your blocks!
